Quality Assurance Testing Series

Volume #1

Preparation of 4"x8" Compression Test Specimens

Watch a clip

4"x8" compressive strength specimens are allowed by ASTM C31. They are faster and easier to prepare, and result in easier-to-handle eight pound cylinders (as compared to the 30 pound cylinders produced by 6"x12" specimens). And research shows that the 4"x8" specimens produce virtually the same test results.

This information-packed, easy-to-follow 14-minute video, details the steps and procedures that an ACI Grade I Field Testing Technicians (or equivalent) should follow in preparing 4"x8" compressive strength specimens in accordance with ASTM C31, including:

  • Sampling: Selecting a composite sample in accordance with ASTM C172

  • Molding: Proper molding, including consolidating by rodding or vibrating

  • Curing: Steps for both initial and final curing

  • Identifying and Reporting: Recording accurate testing information

Proper preparation of compression testing specimens is a vitally important part of a comprehensive quality assurance testing program. Make sure your field testing technicians have the support they need to do produce accurate results. Order this video today.
