Webinar Description:

Concrete petrography can be a useful, insightful and economical tool to gain an understanding of the performance of concrete and other cement-based construction materials. It can also be a poorly understood exercise in that is ultimately more frustrating than rewarding for clients. This seminar will highlight the basics of concrete petrography and show how it can become part of a broad tool kit in troubleshooting concrete construction.

This session will focus primarily on issues relevant to concrete suppliers--such as materials QA/QC, early-age cracking, low strength, and the control of air, but other topics such as scaling, freeze-thaw damage, and alkali-silica reaction are also fair game. The goals of the seminar include conveying how a petrographic examination is done, how to coordinate and manage investigations that use concrete petrography, how to sample for concrete petrography, how to know what petrography can tell you and how to recognize what petrography can't tell you.
