Energy Star Survey
- Plant Managers, Operations Managers and Environmental Managers
- please help NRMCA with this joint energy use initiative and the U.S. EPA
Energy Star program. This survey is to help baseline energy use
and rmc plant and then specific programs will be tailored to help reduce
that energy use. Ultimately, saving the rmc producer money.
This is a per-plant survey.
-
Fleet Benchmarking Survey
-
The OES Committee regularly reviews and refines the survey in an effort to

NRMCA attended a meeting with SBA and EPA
representatives in December 2010. One of the major focuses of the meeting
was to look at specific examples of how the "Fly-Ash" stigma has
affected small businesses. Please pass along specific instances
where this has happened and NRMCA will forward to the Small Business
Administration. Contact Gary Mullings at
gmullings@nrmca.org
for more information.

The
NRMCA Safety Contest ended on
May 1,
2011. The NRMCA Safety Contest continues to
fine tune the metrics and the contributing causes to accidents in the
ready mixed concrete industry.
New this
year, we are asking companies for vehicle accident data. This is
the first year for gathering vehicle accident data and will be used for
benchmarking purposes only. Vehicle accidents will not be
factored into the winning submissions. The vehicle accident column
will be marked when there is a vehicle accident that does not fall under
the definition of a DOT Recordable Accident.
NRMCA thanks you in
advance for going this extra step and including vehicle accidents.

Interpretation of OSHA's Provisions
for Feasible Administrative or Engineering Controls of Occupational
Noise
-
This new interpretation clarifies OSHA's new
interpretation of this standard with companies having to engineer out or
reduce the noise below the acceptable levels before using PPE.
-
OSHA proposes to consider administrative or
engineering controls economically feasible under the noise standards
when the cost of these controls will not threaten the cited employer's
ability to stay in business or when the threat to viability results from
the employer's having lagged behind the industry in providing safety and
health protection to employees.

NLRB postpones effective date of rights posting rule to April 30
The National Labor
Relations Board agreed to postpone the effective date of its employee
rights notice-posting rule at the request of the federal court in
Washington, DC hearing a legal challenge regarding the rule. The Board’s
ruling states that it has determined that postponing the effective date
of the rule would facilitate the resolution of the legal challenges that
have been filed with respect to the rule. The new implementation date is
April 30, 2012.
Most private sector employers will be required to post the 11-by-17-inch
notice on the new implementation date of April 30. The notice is
available at no cost from the NLRB through its website,
www.nlrb.gov, which has additional information on posting
requirements and NLRB jurisdiction.
