NRMCA | Operations

The Operations Task Group developed the Fleet Benchmarking Survey in 1999. The survey is filled out by industry fleet managers and/or financial managers early each year, based on data gathered from the previous calendar year’s performance.

The OES Committee regularly reviews and refines the survey in an effort to gather and disseminate the results in as meaningful a report as possible. The Fleet Benchmarking Survey and NRMCA’s efforts to establish industry benchmarking norms and procedures are addressed in the Association’s Fleet Manager Certification Course.

Information gathered from the annual Fleet Benchmarking Survey is published in a full report in Concrete InFocus magazine each autumn. A shorter Executive Summary of the survey is also made available to all:

One of the key ready mixed concrete industry fleet benchmarks tracked by NRMCA’s Fleet Benchmarking and Cost Survey survey is the cost of truck mixer fuel per cubic yard of concrete delivered. Generally, truck mixers consume roughly one gallon of diesel for every yard they haul. This chart shows how the cost-per-yard trend has closely followed the cost of a gallon of diesel over the years, with a big increase in 2008 when fuel prices rose to historic highs.
